Fact Finding Technique(FFT):

Fact Finding Technique(FFT) is the formal process of using research,interviews,questionaries and other techniques to collect information about systems, requirement and preferances.It is also called information gathering or data collection.System analyst is responsible for fact finding.
There are mainly four fact should be collected:
  • Data: The raw material used to create useful info.
  • Process:The activity that carry out the mission.
  • Interfaces:How the system interacts with people.
  • Geography:Where data is stored, processes and inteface happen.
There are 7-fact finding techniques by which we collect fact for our projects:
  1. Studying & Sampling of existing documentation forms and files:
  • organisational chart,History of projects suggestions note, customer comlaint
  • companies mission,objective &strategic plan
  • Policies,previous system studies &designs
  • Manual&computerized databases
     2. Research &site visits:
  • Read computer journals,Rference books
  • Internet
  • Case-studies
     3. Observation of the work environment:
  • A technique where the system analyst either participates or watches a person perform activities to learn about the system.
     4. Questionaries:
  • Collect information and opinions.
  • what benefits do you think the system might bring?? rating??ranking???
     5. Interviews:
  • Collect information from individuals face to face
  • find facts,verify facts,classify facts
  • Identity requirements
     6. Joint Application Development(JAD):
  • Group meetings that get the the end users,managers &analysts together.
     7. Rapid Application Development(RAD):
         This technique allows analysts to quikly create mock forms and tables to simulate the
         implemented system and users suggests the changes to the prototype.

Siginificance of FFT:
Tools,such as data and process model documents facts and conclusions are drawn from facts. if facts are not collected tools can't be used effectively and efficiently.
